A Brief History of the School

Modern School is an English medium Pre-primary preparatory school with classes from Play Group to Kindergarten. The school was founded in 1953 by Mrs. Enid Isaac, B.A., B.T., (w/o Late Brigadier George S.Isaac), in a small way with only five students. It was the first English medium school in Barrackpore subdivision.

In the fifties and sixties the school catered mainly to the children of expatriate Britishers of the various jute mills and the officers of British Gurkha units posted in Barrackpore. Later children of Indian Army and Air Force Officers and from all walks of civilian life found it to be a good preparatory school.

Admission to the school is open to all without any bias of caste or creed. The main intake is in Lower Nursery (3+) for which forms are available from September. Admission to other classes is by admission test if and when a vacancy occurs.

Children who have a certificate of good conduct are welcome to apply for admission to the upper primary classes in our sister school Modern English Academy (a private unaided Christian higher secondary school, affiliated to the Council for the Indian School Certificate Examination, New Delhi).

Modern School celebrated its 70th year in 2023.

From the Dean’s Desk

Our academic year is planned and implemented keeping the best interests and well-being of our little ones in mind.  We ensure that the school is their second home-a safe environment where they learnt to read and write; always under the attention and care of their “mother” teachers. There was adequate ‘play time’ and ‘friendship time’ to socialize and make friends. Some of this was structured into their time table and some of it was in the recess where they socialize informally but always under the supervision of duty teachers.

HEADMISTRESS REPORT 2024-25

This year has been a joyful journey of learning, growing and many special moments as our little ones took their first steps into the world of education.

This journey wouldn’t have been possible without the unwavering support of our teachers, who have lovingly guided each child with patience and care, and the encouragement of parents, who are the foundation of this nurturing environment.

NURSERY DEPARTMENT REPORT 2024-25

It is rightly said that learning promotes creativity, creativity leads to thinking, thinking gives knowledge and knowledge makes one wise.

In this one year children have grown and learnt so much. We start our day with the morning prayer and song followed by various activities planned for the day. We interact  with them as their mother teacher.

KINDERGARTEN DEPARTMENT REPORT

As the saying goes, “Children are like saplings – tiny and fragile.” At our Kindergarten, we take pride in nurturing our students to become strong and confident individuals.

Our day begins with morning prayer and singing the School Song, setting a positive tone for the day. As our children step into the new class, we engage them in various activities like reading, writing, and reciting, keeping them active and curious.
